Review: Mada ISDN – @Mada_Kuwait

A generous gift that I have received from Mada (ISP) two days ago, a bag including “Mada SOHO” router and landline phone set. I took few shots while I was installing the package to try the ISDN service, which will provide you with a landline phone based on Mada’s router. The setup was so easy, just plug the router to a power socket, connect your phone to the router.. and thats it! However, you should be familiar with setting up the router access credentials to be able to change the default Hotspot name and WEP key to your own.. if you weren’t, just follow the included guide! :)

Above, is the Mada SOHO router, that you might already be familiar with

As you can see above, Connected to Mada WiMax netwrok, the WiFi is on, and the “Phone” light is on (in blue), this means that the ISDN line service is active.

Connected the router to the phone.. I mean “The PINK phone” :p
The funny thing is that I got a “PINK” phone, while PINK GIRL and JACQUI got YELLOW phones..
Looking at the bright side, its a phone that works :P

A trial call, calling from my cell to the new ISDN line

This is a service that will come in handy to manage your small business, coming with a reasonable yearly subscription. Here is a LINK to Mada’s website including service usage instructions, and pricing.

BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 is out

Just few hours ago, RIM has officially announced the release of BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0. As news confirmed before, the new OS provides an integrated email client with a unified inbox, integrates your social accounts with calendars and contacts, updated BlackBerry Bridge, and now it supports a range of “Android apps”!

More details are on BlackBerry blog.

My latest toy from Blink

As I usually do on monthly basis, I surf around blink.com.kw to check out when gadgets I would really need for my daily work and media storage. i came across this new toy, and it is a very good deal! Buffalo DriveStation 3.0TB – USB 3.0 (HD-LB.0TU3-EU) for 71 KD. The same item is available on Amazon.com for $350 (Equivalent to 95 KD)

I was lucky enough to pickup the last one :p I’ll review it once received.

Magic Cube: Laser Keyboard

Yes, it’s here in K-town and I found it yesterday in iCity showroom for KD 55. So sharp and accurate, easy to install, small in size and is light weight! I gave it a try on MacBook Pro & iPad and it works perfectly on both. Btw, it should work on any device that has a keyboard and supports bluetooth connectivity or has a USB slot. Oh yeah, and a 1 year warranty from B2B.

Again.. available at iCity in three colors (White, Silver, and in Red) for 55 KD

Best Buy leaked doc: iPhone 5 is in 1st week of October

Above, is a snap shot of a Best Buy leaked document, stating the it is expected to start “Pre-selling” of the iPhone 5 on the first week of October. As we have seen before, an iPhone 5 launch key-note rehearsal by Steve Jobs was in the process. It is expected to announce the new device without a Key-note this year, as Steve Jobs has recently resigned as Apple CEO to remain as a Chairman. The below is “claimed” to be a leaked photo of the expected device:

NETGEAR Range Extender

I’ve been looking for this for over a month now, and I finally found it in X-Cite at a very good price (KD 33 – %20 discount = KD 26.750). This is the best solution if you’re living in a typical Kuwaiti house, where “nuclear-war resistant concrete” walls surround you!

Installation was very simple, plugged it to power, turn it on, accessed the control panel wirelessly. You’ll have the option to either use the main router access credentials, or even set new login information for the extender itself. My original home WiFi was really impossible to reach, but with this new toy I can move around freely with full internet access.

Brand: NETGEAR
Model number: WN2000RPT
Where to find it: X-Cite Alghanim
Price: KD 33 – %20 discount = KD 26.750 (I think this is a limited time offer)

Poll: The Social Network

It’s not about “The social network” movie! I’m creating this poll to assist me in a research I’m working on, so I assume that most of you, if not all, have facebook accounts or at least an account in any other social website. So, help? Please?

Question 1: (Below; you can choose more than one answer)

What's your favorite facebook feature?

Question 2:

What is a “NEW” feature that you would like to see in a social networking website?
By “NEW“, I mean that it does not exist on any other website.

Comment please to answer :)

New: Twitter “mention & DM” notifications!

Twitter now sends an email notification to you whenever someone mentions or DMs  you on Twitter! This, somehow, will be, and is, very annoying!

Below is how I turned them off.. easy (Read here a HOW-TO)

One more thing, this is being gradually applied on all twitter accounts. I had it on the blog account, but not on my personal one yet!
