Dear X-Cite.. seriously??

Let’s face it.. everyone of us is somehow addicted to a specific category when it comes to shopping regardless of the pricing of the item in mind, But the incredibly “crazy prices” at some electronics stores would really make you consider comparing prices (knowing that they’re not posted somewhere online, you’ll have to stop by every store you may know).. or maybe just forgetting about buying what you’ve been looking for!

In my case.. it’s the Apple Thunderbolt display 27″

Because I multi-task most of the time, it is impossible for me to work with one screen; I work on 2 browsers, Code editor (Multi window; for PHP, JS, CSS, and HTML), phpMyAdmin (MySQL management), and a debugger… all at once! so here comes the need of getting an extra display for my 27″ iMac. I’ll compare the local prices with the original Apple store price:

Apple Thunderbolt
display 27″

Apple store (online) iCity X-Cite Alghanim
Price $999 = KD 276 KD 365 KD 319

KD 498
KD 399 (discounted)

Have you noticed X-Cite’s pricing? the announced price is KD 498!! Seriously?? This is what exactly happened with me when I went to Alrai showroom and found the display I was looking for, actually couldn’t believe the numbers I was reading on the price tag! KD 498?? Is it gold plated or what!? So I called the salesman who confirmed the price to me, and started calculating the “discounted price”.. “Sir, it’ll be 400 KD after discount” he said.. “400 sharp?” I asked.. “naah, 399 KD something” he replied… woohoo! I feel much better now with the great discount!!!

That got me to think about the profit margin of every single item they sell; if Blink is selling the display for KD 319 with at least KD 30 profit, then X-Cite is making almost KD 110 profit for the same display, which is almost PLUS 40% profit margin if compared to the original Apple store price! And the same goes for iCity with a – sometimes- smaller margin

one word.. greedy!

My experience with NBK

It’s been three years since I have opened my 1st account in NBK. I used to have my salary, savings..etc, with another two banks, and the 1st reason that encouraged me to move to NBK was that their branch locations; one in the head office of my work place, and another one in Qortuba, where I live.

I have never faced any problems with NBK, even though I don’t do much transactions ,but I remember a while ago when I lost my wallet. The reaction of the Hala Watani employee I talked to was so great, and I can never explain how compassionate he was! He also guided me on what to do and what actions should I take in regards to my civil ID, after he canceled my ATM & Credit cards and requested new ones for me.

Now moving to the online service, simplicity speaks! easily managed to do my tasks without any help, guidance, or what so ever. but a little more “branding” won’t harm :) ;i.e, Replace texts with graphics, icons.. maybe?

That was a quick note on how I am satisfied with NBK

NBK, I <3 U ! :)

Global shareholders.. get ready for more

I do recommend reading it since it is totally unbiased information regarding a company that weights just too much in our little economy.

Agility vs US case: Agreement reached?

There is an info circulating around regarding agility’s case that it has reached an agreement with the US gov. over a settlement which will be around $600 million that will be paid on 3yrs plus getting back on all the US gov. contracts again.

nothing is confirmed and I couldn’t find any related news neither on reuters nor bloomberg so it might be just a rumor or the deal is not sealed yet.

* UPDATE: another msg claims that the news  we got yesterday is true and it is expected to be announced on sunday morning.

The case was postponed from Jan. 29 to Feb. 8 to negotiate over the settlement. so its scheduled for today in Atalanta timezone

I’ll add any updates we get.

DUBAI (Zawya Dow Jones)–Kuwait’s logistics firm Agility (AGLTY.KW) said Monday a U.S. court entered a not guilty plea on its behalf as the company continues talks to settlement a case over allegations it overcharged on about $8.5 billion worth of contracts.

“The court agreed to assign the case for purposes of setting a briefing schedule and entered a plea of ‘not guilty’ on the company’s behalf to allow the case to move forward,” Agility said in an emailed statement after the court session.

“The request for a briefing schedule is intended to preserve PWC’s rights while the company and the Department of Justice conduct discussions aimed at a resolution of the case.”
